Is your child or you addicted to smartphones? Learn how to curb overuse

What to do to reduce smartphone addiction?

Most people are now under house arrest due to the lockdown caused by the coronavirus. That's why everyone from eight to eighty is busy on smartphones to pass the time. The situation has reached such a stage that even after completing online classes or office work, many people are stuck on their mobiles without spending their leisure time with their families. And as a result of this addiction, loneliness and social distance between people is increasing.

A recent study found that most people use smartphones around 80-150 times a day. In that case, if we can't control this bad habit, the consequences can be quite harmful. So today we are going to talk about some ways to limit the use of smartphones. By following these, you can reduce your own, even your child's, addiction to smartphones.

Here are some ways to control the use of smartphones

1. Track smartphone usage duration

Both iPhone and Android phones offer the option to track device usage. It lets you know how long you've been using your smartphone. There is also a graph of which apps you are using the most. Also, under this option, you will get the down-time schedule feature. Only apps that you wishlist can be used while it's enabled or on.

Without these, no other app will work at that time. As a result, this option allows you to control your and your child's addiction to social media and gaming. You can get this setting in the screen time option of the smartphone.

2. Give yourself more time

Chatting with friends or family on social media, we often can't find time for ourselves. In this case, you can keep the 'Do Not Disturb' mode on your smartphone for a few hours. If someone calls at this time, you will not be available. As a result, you can safely concentrate on other things. By the way, while this mode is on, you can select some required numbers from the contact options so that no urgent voice call is missed. Also, you can switch off your smartphone at a specific time every day if you want. So you can spend more time with your family.

3. Engage yourself in other activities

If you like to read books, draw pictures or play indoor games like chess, carom, you can do all these things without using your mobile in leisure time. This will reduce your addiction to smartphones and increase your creativity. Or, you can turn on the 'Do Not Disturb' mode on your handset while watching a movie or game on TV. As a result, you will not be able to look at notifications or messages on your mobile and you will be able to concentrate on watching movies or games.

4. Grayscale the smartphone

Studies have shown that people are more attracted to colorful objects. That's why today's smartphones come with high-resolution screen quality and vibrant colors, so we are a little fascinated by them. Also, as it has become our habit to check it as soon as the notification arrives, I use my phone excessively. So if we convert the display of the phone to grayscale or black-and-white canvas, our desire to use mobile can be greatly reduced. In this case, some phones also have a schedule feature, which automatically converts the phone to grayscale. You can try this method to reduce the use of the phone.

5. Turn off unnecessary apps and notifications

Gaming or shopping apps on the phone send frequent notifications to get our attention. As a result, we also check the sound of the notification immediately. Again, social media apps send us hundreds of notifications a day to give us all the updates on the friends list or the page we like. As a result, I also waste a lot of time on my mobile. So close or uninstall apps you don't use. And you can check for social media related updates from laptop or desktop.

This will reduce the addiction to mobile.
